Let’s hear it for the New Year! Last year was a year of rest and recovery over here. It wasn’t the most productive, by a long shot, but that’s ok. I learned how to be present in the moment. I learned how to feed a baby, but definitely not how to convince one to sleep through the night. After quite a stressful pregnancy, holding my baby while she slept has been my therapy.
All that said, I’m excited to share some brand new recipes with you very soon! This year, I’m focusing on dinner recipes because wow, getting dinner onto the table can be hard. If you’re struggling, I’m right there with you and hope we can share strategies soon.
If you’re looking for wholesome, satisfying, veggie-packed recipes, you’re in the right place. You’ll find a bunch of them in my guide to seasonal produce below. For in-depth resources and tips on how to eat real food, be sure to check out my cookbook, Love Real Food.
Cheers to a healthy and happy 2023. Thank you so much for being here.

Randi
Hi there, I found your blog today while looking for new recipes. Last year, I went on a low cholesterol diet and have eliminated all land animals. I’m bored of stir fry and need some simple variety.
I want to say that I so appreciate the text versions of your recipes, since I’m blind and use screen reading technology, which can’t work with pictures. I can’t wait to start trying your recipes, thanks! Black bean and veggie enchiladas, here I come!
Kate
Randi, thank you for your note! I’m glad you appreciate the recipes. I tried to provide as much detail as I can in the instructions! Happy New Year.
Libby
Yes! More veggies PLEASE! :D This post couldn’t have come at a better time. That Thai Curried Squash Soup is going on the grocery list. <3
Kate
Coming on up! Hope you love the soup, Libby.

Tisha Riman | The Nourished Mind
These all look amazing! I shared them on my Facebook page because I’m sure everyone is looking for awesome fresh winter recipes!
Thanks so much! xx
Kate
Thank you, Tisha!
Maria
Kate, I love how much you think about flavors! Every recipe seems to have an unexpected “extra.” Its like that one (or two) special ingredient(s) that just takes it to the next level of flavorful! So many of these recipes showcase the creative and thoughtful ways you incorporate flavor!
To that end, everything I have ever made from your site has been fabulous!!
Kate
Thank you so much, Maria! I appreciate your kind words. :)

I made the butternut squash soup and it’s delicious.
Kate
Glad to hear it, thank you!
Olesea
I’ve been following your blog since September and it’s by far my favourite food blog. I can’t wait to buy your cookbook! Please keep up the wonderful job! PS, Do you have a printable version of your seasonal produce? I always make one based on your “what to cook this month”.
Kate
Thanks, Olesea! I’m so glad to hear that. :) I don’t have a print-friendly version, but that’s a good idea. Most of my monthly guides conclude with a collage, which I think you could open in another window and print, if that helps.
Jason
So many good recipes. I’m making the roasted broccoli and arugula salad tonight. The curried butternut squash soup looks excellent as well. Thanks for all the great recipes.
Cheers,
Jason
Gustavo Woltmann

Missy
When will your cookbook be out? I keep printing off your recipes and wondering if they would just be in the cookbook. I enjoy many of your recipes and your take on food.
Kate
Thanks, Missy! My cookbook is being released in May, but you can pre-order it here on Amazon and here at Barnes and Noble. Hang tight! It’s right around the corner :)
Amy @ Salt and Skillet
I loooove that you organized this by what’s in season! Not only will the produce be the tastiest and most nutritious, it’ll be the cheapest, too! Literally ALL of these recipes are being added to be list – I love beets but never know what to do with them! They all look incredible!
Thanks so much, Kate!
Kate
Thanks! I’m happy you liked the post.

I feel like I spend more time looking at your recipes than any other website or blog. I’ll say it: we’re just food soul sisters. On that note, I don’t know how I’ve missed seeing that Quinoa Vegetable Soup. I need to make that ASAP. It looks perfectly satisfying for this time of year!
Kate
I’m happy to hear that! You’re so sweet. Enjoy the soup when you make it!
Suzanne
Every one sounds great! I want to make every single one! Thanks for the great recipes and inspiration.

You’re welcome, Suzanne!

Don’t forget to add the classic tomato soup recipe to this list! It was so good & warming. My 4&6 yr olds gobbled it up. No more boxed/canned soup for us!
Kate
It’s a good one for sure!!
Paige
I am currently reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and now have a new appreciation for actually paying attention to what’s in season. This monthly update is perfect and much appreciated! I also am putting a plug out there for your cookbook; I have it and I love it! The sweet potatoes with quinoa, goat cheese, and other goodies are a favorite. :)
Kate
Knowing what is in season is an eye opener for sure!
Dr Martin Huang
I love your quinoa vegetable soup and roasted potatoes & broccoli rabe. Make a great January with these recipes full of good food.
Kate
Thank you!
Linda
I LOVE your recipes! Every time I buy your cookbook, somebody comes to the house, loves what I’m making, and leaves with my cookbook and some leftovers. So I buy another, same story. It’s a wonderful gift and I plan to continue to share this way. Thank you!
Kate
Thanks you for sharing the love, Linda!
Lisa Reeve
I love your blog and received your book for Christmas. Yesterday I made the spinach and artichoke quiche with the almond meal crust. I’ve made a lot of frittatas in my day, and this is my absolute favorite!!
The crust added so much flavor, and the milk made all the difference. I had just been making mine with eggs. A fantastic recipe I will be making again soon! Thank you.
Robin Stiefel
Hey Kate! I already submitted my survey but just thought of a recipe that I would love for you to create! I really miss Buffalo Chicken Dip since I became vegetarian. I would love a vegan version of one! Thank you for making vegetarianism easier and still delicious
Liz
I just did your survey :). I don’t think I’ve ever commented before but I just have to say I love your recipes. Your blog and cookbook are my go to resources. My meat eating husband loves your recipes, my kids love your recipes, and I love that your recipes are vegetarian, the ingredients are accessible, and they are consistently delicious. I have your marinara sauce simmering as I type this! Thank you for being so amazing!
Simone
I made the spicy roast carrots when you first posted the recipe and they were great! Thank you :)
Also, I did your survey this morning but forgot to add an additional comment. I’m in Australia and it would be amazing if you could put the oven temperature in degrees Celsius as well as Fahrenheit. I often use a converter to help me but it would make it so much easier if it was already there.

Just what I needed to start 2019- A list of new recipes to try out every weekend! I just found your blog and I am so glad I did. You have such great recipes and I loved the whole idea of veggie-packed dishes.
I am the most excited about that Thai curry though :D
Happy New Year to you and Cookie
Kate
I’m glad you found it too and this is a great resource for you!
Martha Tenney
You’ve created such a wonderful website. It’s comforting, friendly, happy, colorful and charming. I wish you the best for 2019 and look forward to more of your creativity. Thank you!
Kate
Thanks so much, Martha! I appreciate it. :)

Hi kate.
Some of these are good nutritional ideas for a veggie packed meal. especially the Curried Sweet Potato, Farro, Kale and Chickpea Soup.
Actually, just stumbled on your blog, and I’m very excited with it. Will keep coming back. Keep it up.
Kate
I’m happy you think so!
Patricia
Hello Cookie and Kate!
What a bounty of recipes, advice, and encouragement you give all of us. Let me assure you we all appreciate it muchly (as my granny would say).
For me, the most helpful addition you could make to your recipes would be make-ahead or pause notations. If some portion of the recipe could be made a day or so ahead, or could sit for the half hour it takes me to answer one or two emails, that would be fantastic.
You are truly a gem among women! Thanks for all you do.
Amy S
I love so many of your recipes. After a trip to NYC I’m hunting for a delicious ramen recipe (loaded with veggies and tofu). My boys are begging for a crunchy, high protein snack to pack for lacrosse practice. Thanks for your amazing recipes!!
Pamela Duxbury
Would love to see some updates to the app! I love using the app for cooking and shopping but am missing some of your newest recipes! Hope there are plans for 2020! : )
Ann
Love your cookbook & all your recipes! I should be a sales rep for you because I tell everyone about your fabulous cookbook & email recipes! Always eager to learn new recipes!❤️
Rebecca B.
Your recipes are so wonderful – I can’t wait for more in 2020! A few things that I would be very interested in reading about are fitness and healthy lifestyle posts. For sure keep the focus on recipes, but I would love to read more about how you stay healthy and grounded and active!
Amy
Hi Kate,
I cook from your book and blog every week, I am so grateful for your recipes! One feature for your website that would be of great help would be a “skip to recipe” option at the top of each post. I love to read each new entry, however often I’m returning to old favorites and it would be helpful to be taken right to the recipe. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2020!
Rachel
I love your website and cookbook, and use them all the time. For me, it would be so helpful to have weights, in addition to volume based measurements, particularly for baking recipes. Thank you!
SS
Happy New Year!
Could you consider having an area in your site where people can submit recipe requests? I know you may not necessarily be able to develop a recipe for all requests but it would be nice to have that feature. Just a thought.
Kate
Hi! Happy New Year. I love hearing what reader’s want! Feel free to send an email to hello@cookieandkate.com with your requests.
miky
Kate … I can not get enough trying your delicious networks, thank you for giving us the opportunity to spoil ourselves with delights … well, the greater the pleasure the more weight increases … but well there are solutions and for this!https://tinyurl.com/orgweb
thanks!
Juliann Laufer
I look forward EVERY month to you recipes, favorites and updates! I hope Cookie is doing well! Can’t wait to try these all! Best in 2021!
Kate
Thank you so much, Juliann! Cookie has been bursting with energy over the past few days (lots of snow on the ground so finally took her for a long walk!). Stay well!
Joanne
Hi Kate, LOVE your recipes! Would it be possible to get the option to print recipes without the photos? I love the photos but they use loads of ink each time I print. Just a thought….Thanks and enjoy your new home!
Kate
Hi Joanne! There is a better way to print—if you scroll down to the recipe itself, you’ll see a “print” button, which will only print one very small photo but includes all of the recipe text. Hope that does the trick for you.
Christina Abney
How is Cookie?
Kate
Hi Christina, thank you for asking. She’s twelve weeks into her chemo regimen and has a few more treatments to go. This week, we’ll do some additional testing on her one lymph node that hasn’t gone all the way down to try to figure out what’s going on. She is very much herself, has tons of energy most days, and seems to be doing well! Happy New Year. :)
CHRISTINA ABNEY
Hi Kate,
I am so glad to get an update on cutie pie cookie. I hope she gets well and thrives after her Chemo treatments. Fingers crossed and extra prayers the vet has some good news or treatment options for the lymph node. Best Wishes to you
both and to a healthy new year!
Kate
Thank you, Christina!
Karen
Yum! I’ll be trying most of these recipes! I love your cookbook, Kate.
Thank you for all the great ideas! Happy New Year!
Kate
Thank you, Karen! Happy New Year!
Jaclyn
Kate – Happy New Year and congratulations on your growing family! I’m looking forward to another year of healthy and delicious meals, many courtesy of C+K. Thank you!
Kate
Thank you, Jaclyn!
Chelsea Wullenweber
Hi Kate! I don’t know if I’ve ever commented here but after years of using your recipes, I need to! I think I’ve made your spicy coconut kale stir fry about a million times. It’s a favorite of mine, as well as my omnivore partner’s. Every recipe on your site and in your cookbook just jives with how I comprehend and cook. I so appreciate that, I haven’t found it anywhere else. My partner’s also noted that both my “food lady” and my “yoga lady” (Yoga With Adriene) are most often seen with their dogs. I guess I know what I like! :) Best wishes for you and your family in 2022. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
Kate
Thank you, Chelsea! I’m glad you have enjoyed my recipes and following along for while. I appreciate your support!
Pauline Madrieres
These all look amazing! I got your cookbook last year for Christmas and I cooked my way through it like Julie&Julia!!
Nathalie H.
Hello Kate, I have been enjoying your blog all these years and then realised I had never even posted one comment… So, here I am, wishing you and your closest and dearest a Happy New Year. I always enjoy reading about your family updates. Your beautiful baby Grace is the perfect addition to your family. I am pleased that Cookie’s health condition is in check. Your blog is a happy place! Your recipes and photography burst with vibrant colours, everything is so gracious and scrummy!
Kate
Thank you for following along and for all your support, Nathalie! Grace is really such a wonder addition to our family. :)
Shannon Thomas
So I’ve been accessing and recommending your site for over a year and only today learned this is a vegetarian food blog! Which explains why I always come here when I need a reliable recipe for a salad, or side, or breakfast. Your recipes are so reliable! Unlike many food blogs (including big names like Food Network, Epicurious, and the formerly awesome Serious Eats), I get the sense that you or someone real has actually tried and tasted and tested these. I know the recipe will work and will most likely be awesome unless I simply am not a fan of the ingredients themselves.
I am a pretty serious carnivore but I do worry more and more about the impact. I try to source local and sustainable meat for my kitchen, but I think I am going to give some of your meatless mains a try and broaden my kitchen horizons.
Congrats on the cookbook! Hugs to Cookie – st
Kate
Hi Shannon! Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I spend a lot of time creating and testing recipes before the are shared with you. Comments like this remind me it’s what you are looking for.
Laura Farmer Sherman
I want to tell you how I appreciate your genius — the lentil soup, the easy chana masala, the vegetarian chili — and above all — the west African peanut soup are out of this world. Thank you. And blessings to Cookie as she undergoes her journey. xoxo
kaylie
I love this is great
Sue
Happy New Year to you and your family!
How is Cookie doing?
Kate
Happy New Year! She is starting to show her age, which is hard. Getting in some shorter walks and lots of love!
Kat
Woooo! Really looking forward to more dinner recipes. Can’t wait!
Allie
Happy new year! Thrilled to hear about your “getting dinner to the table with small kids” initiative. Will be following closely in this vegetarian house, you’re our favorite cookbook and blog. All our best to your little family!
Kate
Thank you! I’m excited to hear what you think.
